New Focus

I'm now mostly a retired meteorologist but still love to watch Utah weather. I will continue to update the Utah weather cams and Utah weather links pages and occasionally post Utah weather related information. I'm spending more time enjoying Utah snow skiing, cycling, hiking, and water skiing.

Good winter storm (5/6)

A warm front is expected to spread valley rain and mountain snow into northern Utah on Saturday morning ahead of a cold front that moves through in the afternoon that will change the valley rain to snow, continued lighter snow showers on Saturday night at times mainly over the mountains. Plan on a general break in the snow on Sunday for most areas except south and east of the Great Salt Lake where lake effect is projected to set up. A second round of snow is anticipated to move in on Sunday night and continue into the morning hours on Monday, most snow on Monday will again mainly fall in areas south and east of the Great Salt Lake and over the mountains in areas that do well in a northwest flow. Plan on a general 10-20" of snow for most northern/central Utah mountains above 8,000 ft, 18-28" for the Cottonwoods. In the valleys look for a general tr-2", 2-5" benches and in areas that see lake effect. Below is the WRF model forecasted snow for this storm. Enjoy!
